A Dell Laptop Review

Dell Inspiron 15" 7559 Review

Once upon a time, the need for a faster and stronger laptop became a priority for me since my HP Probook 6560B decided to grow old on me ๐Ÿ™‚. After searching online for days, binge-watching Laptop review videos on Dave2D's Youtube Channel, finally, I was satisfied by the RazerBlade 2018 Stealth review not even worrying about my budget, I went straight to jiji to check for the prices in my local currency, the ones I was able to find came with a fair price mostly second-hand.

One thing about getting a new machine is that you have a list of features you want to check. At that time, I want a gaming laptop that's light-weight, thin, with high processing power and a backlit keyboard and can power multiple instance Android studio and chrome browser (Is that too much to ask for ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ? ). The Razer Blade was the only laptop I could think of but the price ๐Ÿฅบ does not align with the weight of my savings ๐Ÿ˜, I needed to think of another option, an alternative; No not Alienware (That's a work station; I can get good abs from carrying that in my backpack every day). Well after binge-watching youtube videos and doing a lot of research I discovered a semi-beast (it's in fact an upcoming beast), all specs checked innocently ๐Ÿ™‚.

15-inch Dell Inspiron 15 7559

Dell Inspiron 15-7559, with Intel Core i7 6th Gen, 1TB HDD storage with an extra slot for SDD storage, 12GB DDR3L RAM upgradeable to 32GB, 4GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 960m 15-inch 4K display and lastly a backlit keyboard ๐Ÿ˜ค (A machine that can help you transit from Peel P50 to Tesla's latest model ๐Ÿ˜Ž).

With a weight of almost 2.7 kg (~6 lb), the 15-inch Dell Inspiron 15 7559 is a multimedia notebook that is not particularly mobile. The most noticeable feature is the high-resolution 4K touchscreen with 3840x2160 pixels. Sufficient performance is ensured by a new Skylake processor with four native cores and Hyperthreading, Intel Core i7-6700HQ, which is supported by 16 GB of DDR3-RAM. The integrated SSD with a capacity of 128 GB is important for smooth user handling, which is complemented by a conventional hard drive with a capacity of 1 TB. The impressive package is rounded off by the performance GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M, even though this will be the limiting factor in games. The lack of an optical drive is unusual for this class of devices. Our review sample from Dell was equipped with a U.S. keyboard. - NotebookCheck

My Honest Review

IMG_20200906_075120.jpg It's been about 8 months now since I started using the Dell Inspiron 7559, the shortest possible review I can give is that the Dell Inspiron 7559 is a good laptop, but here is my honest review:

The design of the black plastic chassis with some red elements is really my taste, tho the material is made of regular plastic including the bottom which feels nice when you touch and doesn't show fingerprints easily but then in the long term it can get old real quick as scratches and scuffs do show up really easily on this kind of materials. The Connectivity is also on my good book, it came with 3 USB3.0 ports, an SD-slot, HDMI port, Earphone jack and embedded Bluetooth 5.0.

But the internet connectivity with Wifi sucks a bit, I think the Dell Inspiron 7559 is generally loaded with a poor wifi card, after connecting to a hotspot for sometimes, it keeps turning itself off which is annoying if you're downloading an important file or on a skype call.

You can't lift the lid with one hand ๐Ÿ˜ฃ without having your palm rest on it, the arrow keys are well positioned and are not surrounded by other keys, the keyboard light comes with only one colour (white), there's a high setting, a medium setting and off.

The typing experience on this laptop is just good but not enough, I hate the fact that the Num Lock key does not have a unique indicator so when fast typing and you try to use the backspace you have to pay attention or you just find yourself hitting on the Num Lock instead. Playing Video games on it is perfectly fine when on AC (I'd advise you don't try to play video games on DC ๐Ÿคฎ), games I have played on the Dell Inspiron 7559 are Fifa 19, Watch Dogs 2, NFS Payback, NFS 13, FarCry 3, FarCry 4, FarCry 5, COD WWII, COD Moder Warefare, GTA V and many more IMG_20200818_183204.jpg

The backup is quite fair, it lasts 6 hours when coding on battery. The Dell Inspiron do freeze from time to time or almost every time (What's happening? This was not what I signed up for) I know right? That's not what I signed up for, I think every machine go through this though I don't about custom-built PCs the kind professional gamers use, Running about two to three instances of Android Studio and one of the Google Chrome browser and the Dell Inspiron will be like ๐Ÿฅถ๐Ÿฅถ๐Ÿฅถ but I figured it is probably because of the current storage type which is an HDD may be upgrading to an SSD will improve the performance, my immediate solution is to use double OS: Windows 10 Home for Gaming and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS for writing codes ๐Ÿ˜Ž ( The performance is way better on Linux).

IMG_20210218_101732~2 (2).jpg

In conclusion, the Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop is a good machine better-suited for coding on lightweight IDE (my opinion ๐Ÿค”), it's a fragile laptop, the hinges are firm but can easily break if one is not careful. The 4K display also give you an extra cool experience in visualizing designs what you see is different from what someone without a 4K screen will see. and Lastly, the glossy screen ๐Ÿ˜– makes the laptop best suited for a dimly lit room.

Positive aspects include the good display with the wide viewing angles, high performance and the very maintenance-friendly construction, where you can actually access all important components including the fan by simply removing the maintenance hatch.
